Bruce Roberts Spray 33 Steel Cutter “SV Miss Fe”

This boat is a solid blue-water cruiser and a real head-turner built by a marine surveyor and commercial diver  “Bill Wolfe” in Brownsville TX. Mr. Wolfe took his time building this boat starting in the early 80’s and not launching her until 2006. Miss Fe is recently back in the states after spending the past two cruising seasons cruising the Chesapeake to the Bahamas. She has undergone extensive refitting prior to this cruising. We are moving onto a new land-based adventure and are sad to see her go. The hull is sound and has never needed patching. She has been professionally surveyed with ultrasounds in both 2015 and Aug 2018 which we can provide to interested parties. This boat is very comfortable both offshore and at anchor due to its heavy displacement. The prop and rudder are very protected. At 4’ draft she is well suited to the ICW and Bahamas but with solid  steel construction she can take you anywhere safely. We think you would be hard pressed to find a more capable boat for the price.

Have questions or want to visit the boat in person please send us an email at Labridae@gmail.com !

History

Miss Fe Under sail in the Bahamas

Miss Fe (“fay”) is a professionally home-built steel-hauled Bruce Roberts Spray 33 (the builder was both a commercial underwater welder and marine surveyor). From paperwork left on the boat, we’ve tried to piece together her life story: her keel was laid in 1988 and she was launched in 2006 in Texas under the name Hobo Lobo. She spent 2 years in Texas with her builder, who apparently was a marine welder and surveyor, before being sold to a Dutch fellow that proceeded to take her for a Caribbean cruise, including Mexico, Cuba and Rio Dulce, Guatemala. She was then rescued from Rio Dulce by a young couple who then sailed her to Annapolis, MD.

After nearly a year and half of not-so-seriously looking at boats online, Paul stumbled upon a Cruisers forum classified ad and thought she would be worth a look. We weren’t even considering steel boats, but we quickly fell in love with Miss Fe. She was as rust free as a steel boat gets with plenty of room for all of our gear and even a few friends.

Miss Fe is 36 ft long overall with 12 ft beam and 4 ft draft. She’s 52 ft tall (including antennas and some buffer). She is cutter rigged with hanked-on sails.  She has an 18 hp Sabb engine and a variable pitch propeller. She weighs 12 tons. She has sleeping room for 6. Her galley has a propane stove /oven, a double sink, and a fridge/freezer.  She creates power by running the engine, solar panels, and a Super Wind generator.  Her wind vane steers us wherever we need to go. With good wind, we sail at 5-7.5 knots, but one time we hit 9.2 knots with the engine cranked and a swift current!

The name Miss Fe comes from her steel hull (Fe being the symbol for iron, if you haven’t caught on yet). Fe is also Spanish for faith.
